Goodbye Civic, Hello CR-V

Category #3 Goal Number 4 complete!!!!!

It all started last February when we had the terrible snowstorm during Parent Teacher Conferences.  Luckily my mother had come and picked up Dalton in the morning before all the weather started, but because it was Thursday of conferences I was stuck until 6.  Bad thing was I was also in charge of our book fair and therefore didn't officially leave until 7.  By then the snow was pretty thick on the ground and you couldn't see the lines on the street.  I froze my feet trying to clean off my car because of course I had worn flats that day with no socks.  That was stupid of me.  I was able to get onto 23rd street and head back to KC, but was going about 10 mph.  I hit the bend and my car started sliding which scared me to death.  Long story short, it's only 8 miles from Lawrence to Eudora and it usually takes me 5 minutes and that night it took me an hour and by then I just pulled off and spent the night in Eudora with a teacher friend after having a panic attack.  So it was decided then that I needed a safer more reliable car for my long drives from my home to work.  From then on I had my heart set on a Honda CR-V.

I knew that it wasn't necessary to get immediately so I wasn't too worried.  However, over the summer when I wanted to take a road trip I had to rent a car to drive the route because my car wouldn't have made it the 2,500 miles I drove.  Another check as to why I needed a safer more reliable car.  Then came the winter and I began praying for no snow because I was still trying to avoid getting a new car because I was worried about the finances.  Luckily we had one snowstorm that really didn't put much on the ground and I went really slow on the highway.  Made it through January with no problems or snow.  Now it's February and I started freaking out again (not really, but need the exaggeration for effect).  Parent teacher conferences are coming up again and I'm still driving my front wheel drive Honda Civic.  Front wheel drive good-bye, hello AWD.

My dad helped me put some feelers out for a new car and we hit a big one at Independence Honda.  The gentleman was giving me an awesome quote.  I had scheduled a meeting with Don Franklin Sr. for February 11 and was prepared to go in and discuss what it would take for me to get a car (that had not been introduced to the public yet.)  I didn't clean out my car- kicking myself for not doing that; it wasn't really dirty, but had a lot in the trunk and headed out to Independence.  I got there and was introduced to Don Franklin Sr. who immediately told me that the car I wanted had just arrived on Friday and in the color I wanted.  He knew I wanted blue, but I had my heart set on the midnight blue.  I was shocked!!!

So now I had to not act all giddy and find out exactly what he wanted for it.  Needless to say I was there from 10:10 to 12:15 before we finally had all the paperwork laid out and I was ready to make a deal.  With my dad's smooth talking and my adorable son winning Mr. Franklin's heart I knew I was walking away with the best deal in the state.  No one would have offered me what he did.  So after another hour of waiting on the paperwork to be completed and my cleaning out my Civic and moving all my stuff over to the CR-V (which this needs to be said)- another couple came over and was looking at the car while I was putting my stuff in it and wanted to buy it.  Thank god that my paperwork was done and the car was officially mine; so sorry and keep moving!!

I was finally walking out of Independence Honda at 1:40 after having written the biggest check I've ever written.  Now I am the proud owner of the first out of the store 2012 Honda CR-V.  And I couldn't be happier!!!!  Features include a back-up camera, AWD, bluetooth capabilities, foldable backseat, more compartments than I could ever need, and ECON for high fuel efficiency.  Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
